Georgia Military College Columbus Named to Military Friendly Schools List

Press release from the issuing company

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014

Georgia Military College Columbus announced today that it has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly School for the fifth consecutive year by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds.

The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.

A Homeland Security and Emergency Management major, Staff Sergeant Abraham Quintanilla of Columbus, GA, considers GMC Columbus to be very military-friendly because it provides “a community-orientated environment.” Quintanilla’s transition from the military to being a student was made easier because “the faculty members at GMC Columbus are very outgoing and student-focused.” He added, “There are a lot of people who know what is going on and can point you in the right direction.”

An Information Technology major, SFC (Ret.) Ramon Ladriye-Lopez of Midland, GA, would “definitely recommend GMC Columbus to military members because they can use prior certifications they’ve gotten through the military and apply them as credit for some of their classes.” Ladriye-Lopez’s favorite thing about GMC Columbus is the small class sizes because “I get individual attention, whereas in a bigger class setting you could be overlooked.”

The list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a free, data-driven, survey of more than 10,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The criteria used to determine each school’s eligibility include the amount of support given on campus to military students, veteran graduation rates, tuition assistance, and other factors.
