GCUA: Sticking to a Family Budget

Georgians believe a household budget is important, but sticking to one isn't easy. According to the Year-End 2014 Consumer Survey conducted by the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates (GCUA), it's unexpected expenses that detour families from sticking to their budgets.
According to the survey, 75 percent of respondents said having a family budget is important, but only 61 percent claim they usually stick to the budget, 20.9 said they sometimes do and nearly 5 percent never do.
Respondents said the following issues keep them from being able to live within their budget:

Unexpected expenses such as a car breakdown or hospital visit

Income fluctuation

Poor planning

Fluctuating food and gas costs
