One Hundred Miles, the Brunswick-based organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and enhancement of Georgia’s 100-mile coastline, proudly announces the creation of the One Hundred Miles 100, the first recognition of its kind honoring “individuals and organizations throughout the state for their efforts to support the health, vitality and future of Georgia’s extraordinary and irreplaceable coast.”
Nominations are welcome from throughout Georgia for those who “through their actions, their words, their votes, and even their checkbooks, show commitment to the well-being and sustainability of the Georgia coast,” says Catherine Ridley, Director of Development and Communications at One Hundred Miles.
“Georgia is extremely fortunate to have a community that recognizes the incomparable character and beauty of its coastal resources and the essential role they play in the well-being of our state,” says Ridley. In a recent independent survey, almost 8 out of 10 Georgians said that they would volunteer, in some way, to support the health of the coast.
“Only through the work of these dedicated businesses and individuals can our coast’s future be ensured. Somedemonstrate their concern on the shores and in the riverbeds. Others make their contribution in classrooms and office buildings. The One Hundred Miles 100 is our way to thank them for their invaluable service as they work to keep Georgia’s coastline vibrant and enduring for generations to come.”
A total of 100 honorees will be recognized throughout ten categories: Artists, Business Leaders, Civic Leaders, Coastal Stewards, Community Advocates, Educators, Journalists, Next Generation, Philanthropists and Researchers/Scientists (specific criteria available on nomination form).
The deadline for nominations is Friday, February 27, 2015. To access the nomination form, visit OneHundredMiles.org. Self-nominations are welcome. For more information, contact [email protected].
