SunTrust Banks, Inc. reached a record year in teammate donations and volunteer hours in 2014, underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to its communities. SunTrust, its teammates and the SunTrust Foundation combined donated $27.9 million to local and national organizations, and teammates logged 220,000 volunteer hours supporting hundreds of worthwhile efforts.
"There's no better expression of SunTrust's purpose than the time and money we give back to our communities," said William H. Rogers, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of SunTrust Banks, Inc. "Our passion for making a difference is particularly evidenced through the increase we've seen in teammate giving and volunteerism."
Throughout 2014, The SunTrust Foundation provided significant financial support to community organizations, educational institutions, local United Way chapters, Operation HOPE, Junior Achievement and the American Red Cross. The SunTrust Foundation donations totaled $12 million. SunTrust Banks, Inc. donated $2.4 million and corporate sponsorships totaled $7 million. Teammate commitments in the amount of $6.5 millionmarked its most successful annual United Way campaign.
SunTrust's 220,000 teammate volunteer hours were dedicated to a number of non-profit organizations, with significant efforts at United Way, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society.
The company will continue its commitment to giving and volunteerism in 2015. Once again, SunTrust's volunteer program this year will provide all full-time teammates with eight hours of paid volunteer time in addition to a "Day of Purpose" they can use to advance their own financial well-being. The SunTrust Foundation's Matching Gifts Program, which matches its teammates' eligible donations dollar-for-dollar up to $2,500, has been expanded to include programs that support financial education.
