Georgia Military College ranked on four of Community College Week’s Top 100 Charts. These charts are produced yearly by the online publication and are split into various categories, with a focus on Two-Year colleges that award Associate’s Degrees. This year, GMC earned a spot in the top 100 of four categories: Top Associate Degree Producer for Minorities, African Americans, and for Students Majoring in Criminal Justice and in Education.

Using IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System), CC Week compiled various lists of institutions that awarded Associate’s Degrees and made distinctions based on data that the schools themselves had reported. This system is operated by the government and open for everyone to view. All schools that participate in any federal student financial aid program, such as Pell Grant, use the system to report information regarding, among other things, enrollment, institutional characteristics, and student persistence and success. Student Faith Perry of Columbus, GA said, “I’m proud of my school.”

Notably, GMC ranked 33 in the country as top Associate Degree producer for African Americans, with a 44% graduation rate. This was the 11th highest graduation rate out of the Top 100. “It’s good to see that more African Americans are getting their degrees,” commented student Kimberley Joseph, currently attending classes at GMC Columbus campus. Briana Rohadfox of Columbus, GA, followed with, “I’m proud to be one of those who are receiving an Associate’s Degree from this school.” GMC made the top 50 for top Associate Degree producer for Criminal Justice majors and top 25 for those majoring in Education.

Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
