CSO Presents Three Russian Masters Concert
Press release from the issuing company
Friday, April 10th, 2015
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present the last concert of the 2014-15 season, Three Russian Masters, on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Studio Theatre attend Know the Score, a pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo, about the music being performed during the concert.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature pianist Claire Huangci performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 16 with the orchestra. Other works include Khachaturian’s Spartacus: Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, Op. 47.
CSO Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo commented, “Being an artist in the Soviet Union during the reign of Joseph Stalin was difficult at best. Your career, indeed your very life, was in the hands of a vindictive dictator and a ruthless state party machine. Disgrace and even death could come in the middle of the night with a knock on the door. We get a good idea of how these three composers dealt with such circumstances through the music they wrote during this time. Taken together, this music offers an intimate
portrait of the resiliency of the human spirit.”
The CSO is also excited to host “Educator Night Out” for the April 25 concert. Area educators are eligible to receive one complimentary ticket. Educators can redeem the ticket in person at the RiverCenter Box Office with a current valid school ID to show that you are a current teacher, principal, counselor, librarian, or school district staff.
Three Russian Masters is presented by the Pezold Companies, Aflac, Sunny 100, and Marriott Columbus.
