At a Phi Theta Kappa honors society Regional Conference held the weekend of March 20, 2015, the Georgia Military College PTK Chapter received three awards. These awards were given not only to individuals, but also to the chapter as a whole.
The awards given to the GMC PTK chapter were similar to ones awarded to chapters with much larger attendance and participation. Georgia Military College has 9 campuses, all led by President Caldwell, and Columbus was just one of those campuses in attendance. Other GMC campuses were also among those awarded. Dr. Jared Lee, who attended the conference with members Caleb Freeman of Phenix City, AL and Matthew Gray of Atlanta, GA, remarked, “It is safe to say that we have an awesome PTK chapter thanks to Carrie and some exceptional students!”
Shane Kiral of Phenix City, AL was given an Outstanding Chapter Officer Award for his work as former chapter president during his enrollment at GMC. Carrie Holzmeister, the faculty advisor for the GMC PTK chapter, received a Horizon Award, which is given to advisors for improving and expanding the impact of their chapter. About winning the award, she expressed, “Working with Phi Theta Kappa students is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, and it means a lot to me to be recognized for the time and effort I put into our PTK chapter,” also adding that she is “inspired by these high-achieving students” and “happy to support them as their faculty advisor.” Finally, the PTK chapter was awarded the 4 Star Level Award, out of a total possible five stars (the chapter’s next goal).
