Spring Archaeology Hike at Callaway Gardens

Hike in the beautiful area of Pine Mountain with local archaeologists on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Discover collapsed ruins and abandoned artifacts of old farm houses in Pine Mountain, Ga. This hike will take a scenic route through a forest with blooming wildflowers, century old trees and babbling brooks.
This easy, one mile hike, suitable for ages 12 and older, will be led by respected archaeologists from Southern Research, who specialize in historic preservation. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring drinking water and insect repellant. The group will start at the Callaway Discovery Center at 9:30 a.m. for a quick historical overview that will include tips on how read the land to identify archaeologically-significant sites. The group will return to the Callaway Discovery Center by 12:30 p.m.
