The always popular “Margaret Carney Tea & Music Series” will be returning for its ninth season to the Columbus Public Library on Friday afternoons this May. This year’s theme will be “A Musical Potpourri & Tea” and will feature music featuring a wide variety of composers and styles.

These free programs, sponsored by the Muscogee County Friends of Libraries, will be held on Friday May 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd at 3:00pm. All performances will take in the Auditorium of the Columbus Public Library, 3000 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. Patrons are encouraged to bring their favorite teacup. This year’s teas will feature several selections from the Republic of Tea.

The musical series, coordinated by Dr. Kristen Hansen, Associate Professor in the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, utilizes a lively combination of lecture and performance that has entertained Columbus audiences for years. Joining Dr. Hansen on stage this year is a group of distinguished musical performance faculty and staff from the Schwob School of Music.

This year’s line-up includes:

May 1: Music for the Horn with Kristen Hansen.

May 8: The Columbus State University Baroque Ensemble featuring Valeriya Nedviga, Violin; Lina Luzzi, Cello; and Kristen Hansen, Harpsichord.

May 15: Valeriya Nedviga, Violin and Anna Vertypolokh, Piano.

May 22: Vocalist Katherine Ambrester with Noe Jacinto Garcia on guitar.

The concert series is named to honor the memory of longtime Library volunteer Margaret Carney. She was devoted to many library programs, including the Tea & Music series.
