Batson-Cook Construction celebrated its 100th anniversary on Thursday with a “Day of Service” project for the West Point Police Department.
Some 40 employees of the general contracting firm gathered at 206 West Ninth Street to begin interior demolition and renovation of the building slated to become the police department’s new headquarters.
“Our employees envisioned celebrating this milestone in our company’s history by giving back to the town of West Point where Mr. Batson and Mr. Cook founded the company in 1915,” said Randy Hall, President and CEO of the company. “One of our corporate values is community involvement, and this project fulfills that goal while enabling us, as individuals, to be involved in a hands-on project that will benefit the entire community.”
The Batson-Cook team, along with Chief of Police Tony Bailey and some of his officers, kicked off the renovation of the 8,000-square-foot building by demolishing existing interior walls and framing new walls and openings to conform to the new floor plan. Chief Bailey will oversee the balance of the renovation project.
“We really appreciate the hard work Batson-Cook has put into this project,” said Chief Bailey, noting that the new facility will provide the department with much-needed space plus room for expansion.
