Aflac to Honor Top Amateur Golfer with New Aflac Cup Trophy

Aflac, the leading provider of voluntary insurance at the work site in the United States, announced today that it will be the presenting sponsor of a new Aflac Cup trophy recognizing the top amateur golfer in three prestigious events.

Mirrored after the PGA TOUR's season-long championship format, the Aflac Cup will be awarded based on a point system. The amateur player who receives the most points based on standings at the end of the designated tournaments will win the Aflac Cup. 

"Aflac has been a supporter of both the amateur and professional golf communities for many years, and we are pleased to extend that partnership even further this year with the introduction of the Aflac Cup," said Keith Pellerin, vice president of Product Management and Innovation at Aflac. "As the top supplemental insurance provider, it's fitting for us to celebrate the top amateur golfer of the season."

The following tournaments will be included in the Aflac Cup scoring: 

  • The Southeastern Amateur, hosted by the Country Club of Columbusin Columbus, Georgia, June 17-20; 
  • The Rice Planters Amateur, hosted by the Snee Farm Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, June 23-27; and 
  • The Oglethorpe Invitational, hosted by the Wilmington Island Club in Savannah, Georgia, July 23-25.

The 2015 Aflac Cup will be presented to the inaugural winner during the awards ceremony following the Oglethorpe Invitational.
