Celebrate the End of Summer at Uptown Screen on the Green
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Thursday, September 24th, 2015
On September 24, Columbus will celebrate summer’s end with a movie under the stars at the 6th annual Uptown Screen on the Green. This free, open to the public event is presented by the Greater Columbus Georgia Young Professionals, a program of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce committed to shaping the future of Columbus through community involvement.
Uptown Screen on the Green, sponsored by Carmike Cinemas, will be held at Woodruff Park Lawn behind Columbus State University’s RiverPark Campus. The fun and festivities begin at 6:00 PM with Uptown Idol. A singing competition featuring seven of our community’s top talents, all competing for a chance to win $1000 and the opportunity to perform the intermission set of October 16th Fall Uptown Concert Series.
As the sun sets and the music winds down moviegoers can grab a spot on the green in front of the 72-foot full size outdoor movie screen to watch the summer blockbuster hit, Furious 7. Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring chairs, tarps, towels, etc. to sit on during the movie. All ages are welcome, however, the movie rating is PG13--parents and guardians should use their discretion.
Moviegoers will be treated to more than just awesome entertainment for free; there will also be t-shirts (for the first 100 guests that arrive) and other giveaways. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, a picnic basket or enjoy food and beverage from a wide array of local vendors.
It is through these types of community events along with seminars, workshops and public service that YP fosters an environment that attracts and retains young talent in the community.
