CSO Erecting Historical Marker on September 21st

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Thursday, September 17th, 2015

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the erecting of the CSO’s historic marker on Monday, September 21, 2015. The ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. on the corner of Broadway and 10th Street, where the marker will be installed.

The historic marker captures the history of the Columbus Symphony orchestra dating back to 1855. Through cooperation with the Historic Chattahoochee Commission, the CSO designed and ordered a Historic Marker to celebrate and commemorate it’s history.

CSO’s Music Director George Del Gobbo said, “"For over one hundred and fifty years the city of Columbus has expressed a desire for fine orchestral music.  This desire has manifested itself through the creation of, and continued support for, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

The dedication of this historic marker represents the CSO's commitment both to celebrate the past and to cultivate a future for our orchestra with the same  commitment and zeal that marked the efforts of our founders.  We hope that you will join us for this happy occasion."

Guest will include Mayor Tomlinson, Bill Murphy from the Chamber of Commerce, Richard Bishop from Uptown Columbus, and Peter Bowden from the CCVB, Historic Columbus Foundation Leaders, Arts/Civic Leaders, Sponsors and members of the Media among others.

The CSO requests an RSVP from the press, please contact Samantha Eastman at 706.256.3645 or at [email protected].
