Fly Fish at Callaway for Trout this Winter

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Friday, October 2nd, 2015

Colder weather means it’s time to welcome trout, and trout fishing, to Callaway Gardens.

In mid-November, select lakes again will be stocked with trout ranging from 14 inches to trophy size of more than 24 inches, with some smaller ones included for variety.

“We want people to realize that they can stay closer to home and spend more time fishing for trout, which put up a great fight,” said Doug Stinnette, fishing operations manager at Callaway.

Winter trout fishing at Callaway Gardens is a great option for those who usually fly fish for bass and bream during the warmer seasons but want something more challenging to do in the colder months. Fishermen in the South will find the waters of the Gardens’ 12 private lakes create perfect conditions for enjoyable Winter fishing.

Trout fishing is available from late-November through March by booking a guided fly-fishing trip for up to two people for $200 per half-day or $300 per full-day, including lunch.  A third person can be added for only $100 per half-day or $150 per full-day. These rates include use of premium equipment.  Novices and experts alike are welcome.  For beginning anglers, fly casting instruction can be added to a trout fishing excursion for $30 per person.
