Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Monday, November 30th, 2015
CardFlight, a leader in mobile point of sale technology announced that its suite of mobile solutions has been certified by TSYS, a leading global payments provider, to accept EMV "chip card" payments. This will enable merchants who process payments through TSYS to accept EMV payments on iOS and Android devices.
Effective October 1, 2015, merchants who have not upgraded to accept EMV chip card transactions can become liable for counterfeit card fraud losses that occur at their stores with chip-enabled cards. However, just 295,000 merchants, out of 8 million who accept credit card payments in the United States, are enabled for chip card acceptance. CardFlight is one of the first payments technology providers to bring EMV chip card acceptance to smartphones and tablets in the US market. As an innovator in payments technology, the company received its first EMV approvals and certifications prior to the October 1 liability shift. By adding TSYS to its list of supported processors, CardFlight is continuing to lead the industry through the EMV migration.
As part of today's announcement, CardFlight's PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant gateway has been certified by TSYS to accept EMV chip card transactions. In addition to TSYS's certification, the solution has also passed a rigorous set of industry approvals including Visa Acquirer Device Validation Toolkit, MasterCard Terminal Integration Process, American Express Integrated Circuit Card Payment Specification, and Discover Payment Application Specification. "Mobile is one of the fastest growing segments in payments and EMV is an important new technology for the United States," said Craig Ludwig, head of product for TSYS' Merchant Services segment. "We're proud to be working with companies like CardFlight that can bring mobile EMV solutions to TSYS merchants."
CardFlight is a provider of mobile POS technology and tools to help anyone accept card present payments in any mobile app with virtually any merchant account. "Merchants are increasingly using integrated software solutions on mobile devices to manage their business and take payments," said Derek Webster, Founder and CEO of CardFlight. "With October's liability shift, merchants want to make sure they can accept chip card payments, and we're excited to be fully certified with TSYS to enable great EMV-approved mobile payment experiences for their merchants today."
Mobile payment acceptance is one of the fastest growing areas in payments. Research firm 451 Research reports that over 13 million mobile point of sale systems are in use globally today, a number that will quadruple to more than 59 million devices by 2019. CardFlight's solution includes an encrypted mobile card reader that supports both EMV chips and magnetic stripes. The hardware is paired with a software development kit that allows developers to easily embed EMV chip card payment acceptance into their own iOS and Android applications. CardFlight also offers a turn-key mobile application called SwipeSimple that is offered through a network of dozens leading banks, merchant service providers and independent sales organizations. The solution can be co-branded or white-labeled to feature each reseller's logo and other pertinent details.
