Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Friday, December 18th, 2015

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its first ever Mozart Festival. The festival will consist of two concerts in Bill Heard Theatre, one Champagne and Dessert Concert in Legacy Hall, two Noteworthy Parties, and one special Symphony U.
The first concert on January 7th at 6:30 pm will feature cellist Wendy Warner and will be accompanied by a pre-concert talk, Know The Score, with Maestro George Del Gobbo at 6:30pm. On January 12th the CSO presents a Champagne & Dessert concert featuring violinist Sergiu Schwartz. The final concert in the Mozart Festival Series will be held on January 16th at 7:30pm with pianist Alexander Kobrin, this concert will include Know The Score at 6:30pm.

CSO Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo commented, “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in January of 1756.  January 2016 marks his 260th birthday, and the CSO is celebrating by presenting a three-concert festival of his works. From serenades to concertos to symphonies, we’ve got it all.  And because we are calling our festival "Mozart & Friends" we are including a cello concerto by Haydn and a chamber symphony by Shostakovich.  Solo appearances by our colleagues cellist Wendy Warner, violinist Sergiu Schwartz, and pianist Alexander Kobrin are the cherry on the sundae.  Music by one of the greatest composers ever performed by world artists----you don't want to miss this."

A special Symphony U will kick off the Mozart festival on January 5th. This class will be a quick survey of the life and music of the great musical genius. What makes Mozart, Mozart? Find out at Symphony U! Tickets are $15, to make reservations call 706.256.3640.

Two Noteworthy Parties will be held as part of the Mozart Festial. These entertaining and exciting parties serve as both a gatherings for friends and a fundraising event to benefit the CSO. For more information on party details and reservations, visit csoga.org/noteworthy/.

The CSO Mozart Festival is presented by TSYS as well as Southern Views Magazine, and Sunny100.
