The Chattahoochee Council of the Boy Scouts of America is leading the country in growth.
The Chattahoochee Council of the Boy Scouts of America serves 15 counties in Georgia and Alabama covering LaGrange, West Point, Auburn, Columbus, Fort Benning, and south to Randolph County. In 2013 the council served 3,526 youth in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing. In 2015 the council served 3,897 youth, a 10.5% increase in two years. The national Boy Scouts of America recognizes growth over 2% as exceptional.
The fastest growing program has been the Cub Scout program. Cub Scouting is for boys in 1st grade through 5th grade as boys work on rank advancements and badges that are grade specific and age appropriate. In 2015 the Cub Scout program was updated with new programs and activities to ensure the program remains relevant to today’s youth and parents. In addition new programs sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Columbus provide STEM related programs to youth in hard to serve communities. In 2014 the Cub Scout program grew by 9% and in 2015 it grew by 11%.
“Scouting continues to provide live changing experiences to the youth we serve. The foundation of our program is the Scout Oath and Scout Law. It continues to serve as a strong moral compass where youth learn about duty to God and country in an environment where they get to try new things and develop a lifelong love of learning. This is all accomplished through caring and well trained adult volunteer leadership.” Said Anthony Berger, Scout Executive / CEO of the Chattahoochee Council.
