K-12 Art Contest Sponsored by CTC
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Wednesday, January 6th, 2016
Columbus Technical College would like to remind all area elementary, middle, and high school art students to get ready for a fun competition in the New Year. Columbus Technical College is accepting entries for the 19th annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week student design competition. The contest is open to all elementary, middle, and high school students in Columbus Tech’s six county (Muscogee, Harris, Talbot, Chattahoochee, Stewart, and Quitman) service area. Artists are encouraged to create pieces that celebrate the manufacturers in their region. The college must have the artwork in hand no later than January 15, 2016. Artwork will be taken to Atlanta the following week for statewide judging.
At the state level, winners will be chosen in elementary, middle and high school groupings. The first, second, third place, and honorable mention state winners in each category will be honored at the Governor’s Awards Luncheon on April 21 at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. The greater Columbus area was home to four of the 12 state winners in 2015 – including first place! Governor Nathan Deal will present the first-place winners with $500 scholarships. The second-place winners will receive $300, the third-place winners will receive $100, and honorable mentions will receive $50 scholarships.
Columbus Technical College also plans to hold a regional competition from the entries where local leaders in the manufacturing arena will be called on to help judge the artwork. Prizes will be awarded to area winners in each age group at a ceremony at a later date.
