Columbus State University’s club lacrosse team begins its second season at home on Saturday in a new conference that will pin the Cougars against some of the best teams in the Southeast.
 
Coach Brendan Bonacum is excited about the challenges his team will face in the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference, which includes colleges and universities from Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and DC.

“The level of competition we’re facing this season is tough,” Bonacum said. “Every week we will be playing teams that are already excelling in this conference.”
 
By division standards, CSU’s team is young. More than half of the players are freshmen, but Coach Bonacum said there are a few standout stars that will have a big impact on CSU’s record, including Nick Capano (No. 21), Adam Cahir (No. 3) and Tanner Kline (No. 24).
 
These players and Coach Bonacum are looking to improve the team’s win/loss percentage this year, a capable goal for a team that finished last year with an 8-4 record.
 
CSU will play its first home match against The Citadel Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at the intramural field on CSU’s main campus. During the game, visitors can purchase raffle tickets benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. Winners will be announced during the fourth quarter.
 
“Many of our players’ family members are active duty military, so we are proud to partner with Wounded Warrior Project,” Bonacum said.
