Free Admission for All on Feb. 21st to Celebrate the Life of Callaway Gardens Co-Founder

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Thursday, February 18th, 2016

To pay homage to its founder, Callaway Gardens will admit all guests for free on Virginia Hand Callaway’s birthday, Sunday, February 21, 2016.

Callaway was a native of Pelham, Ga., where she loved to spend time in the outdoors.  She became so acquainted with native plants that she was often called a “self-taught botanist.”  Callaway was later able to apply this knowledge as she and her husband Cason worked to restore the depleted cotton fields, today known as The Gardens at Callaway, with plants indigenous to west-central Georgia.

To mark the occasion, guests can enjoy an organ concert from Noon to 4 p.m. at the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel.
