Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Thursday, March 31st, 2016
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present its final concert of the 2015 – 2016 season, The Pines of Rome: Music of Time & Place on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. attend Know the Score, a pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo, about the music being performed during the concert in the Studio Theatre. Then attend a concert that takes you to another time and place with riveting music from brilliant composers.
This concert features well-known works including: Higdon’s blue cathedral, Bartok’s Hungarian Sketches, Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and his classic Pines of Rome.
CSO Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo commented, “The final concert of the CSO's 2015-16 season features a dazzling display of orchestral color and sonic power. The two tone poems by Respighi are brilliant examples of amazing orchestration, challenging every section of the orchestra. The accompanying pieces by American composer Jennifer Higdon and Hungarian Bela Bartok offer contrasting moods that complete this entire display of what a modern symphony orchestra can do.”
To learn more about the music prior to the concert visit the CSO website at www.csoga.org. Listings of concert program notes complete with musical excerpts are available under each concert listing on the CSO website.
The 7:30 pm concert, located in Bill heard Theatre at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts will open with Higdon’s blue cathedral. Tickets are $5 to $38 and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway side under covered drive to visit the box office). S’MORES – (Final Dress Rehearsal) for this concert will be Saturday, April 16, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. We encourage attendance from members of the community who are either unable to attend the concert or are looking to try out the orchestra. This informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members will set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and expose people who have not had the capabilities to partake in the music being created by the CSO.
