Phenix City Police Chief to Address CVCC Graduates at Commencement

Chief Raymond J. Smith, police chief for Phenix City, will be the commencement speaker at Chattahoochee Valley Community College’s graduation on May 12.
Smith holds a Master of Science in psychology, and a Bachelor of Science in human services, both from Troy State University. He is also an alumnus of CVCC, earning his associate degree in criminal justice. Smith has also graduated from the FBI National Academy and is a SWAT certified instructor.
Chief Smith joined the Phenix City Police Department in 1989. He has served in patrol, CID and Juvenile, administrative and special response roles. He was appointed Chief of Police in May 2009, where he currently serves.
CVCC interim president, Mark Ellard, says, “We are honored to have Chief Smith join us for this occasion and look forward to the message he has for our graduates, especially as a CVCC graduate himself.”
There are approximately 150 students eligible to graduate.
The faculty marshals will be Mary Johnson, chair of mathematics and Dr. Robert Dansby, chair for business and social science. Student marshals include All-Alabama Team member Luke Hammock, and SGA officer Tiffany Gibson.
The Chattahoochee Valley Community College graduation ceremony will take place Thursday, May 12, at 6:00 p.m. ET in Key Hall at CVCC.
