Town Hall Meetings Being Held to Discuss Army Reductions

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Tuesday, April 5th, 2016

The Department of Army is in the process of reducing its size from 490,000 active duty Soldiers to 450,000.

Fort Benning and the Region have already begun feeling the brunt of these reductions.

As a result of this process, active duty Soldiers at Fort Benning have been reduced because of an Army directed cut of 3,402 Soldier positions.

It is estimated that these personnel and their families will have left the Chattahoochee Valley area by summer 2016.

Because these military families live, shop and play in our Region, their departure will impact us in a variety of ways, including through a reduction in local spending, housing demand, K-12 school enrollments and our tax base.

The Matrix Design Group has Teamed with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Partnership Joint Development Authority to assess the Community Impacts Associated with Army Personnel Reductions occurring at Fort Benning.

The Matrix Team is hosting two public “Town Hall” meetings to provide an update to the Region.
Both Town Hall meetings allows interested members of the public to hear the latest discoveries, ask questions, and provide input.

These Town Hall meetings will be held on the following dates:

• Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 6pm – 8pm at the Columbus Georgia Convention & Trade Center, Room 104

• Friday, April 8, 2016 from 10am – 12pm at the Columbus Georgia Convention & Trade Center, Room 104
