Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Thursday, September 15th, 2016
Partners In Education will hold its 2016-17 Kickoff Conference on Friday, September 16 at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. PIE, a program of the Greater Columbus GA Chamber of Commerce, partners local schools with business and community organizations as well as military brigades to provide increased educational and enrichment opportunities for students and educators.
The PIE theme for the year is “Full STEAM Ahead” and focuses on the resources available through science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. This year’s event will feature the STEAM Room with STEAM resources available to schools and their partners since we know the students today and the workforce of tomorrow requires application, creation and ingenuity. The Keynote Address will be delivered by Lisa Brewer, with the Georgia Family Connections Partnership, on “Birth to Eight: Economic Asset or Liability?” and how early childhood learning impacts the economy. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from successful partnerships during a series of breakout sessions providing best practices and resources to enhance their partnerships.
The Kickoff brings together some 250 partnering organizations with nearly 100 schools to plan partnership initiatives for the 2016-17 school year. All PIE agreements are individually designed by the schools and the sponsoring organization to provide opportunities for students aimed at improving levels of achievement, self-esteem, and preparation for future success. Partnerships also provide for school staff education and recognition, thereby increasing staff morale and enthusiasm. Each year during the Kickoff Conference school staff and business representatives develop a comprehensive plan for the upcoming school year.
Partnership plans are to be completed by October 7th. Any organization who would like to partner with a local school can contact the Chamber for more information. No financial contribution is required.
