Hammett Steel, LLC, a fabricator of structural and miscellaneous steel, today announced it has acquired a new facility in Columbus and has plans to employ more than 20 team members. The 184,000 square-foot building is located at 1724 Northside Industrial Boulevard and will allow the company to grow its business of providing steel for industrial, commercial, & residential applications.
Hammett Steel will relocate from its existing 30,000 square-foot facility on Lakewood Drive in Phenix City where it already employs 18 team members. The company worked closely with the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority of Columbus and the Georgia Department of Economic Development prior to making the decision.
“We were outgrowing our current location in Phenix City and evaluated several options,” said Scott Boutwell, partner in Hammett Steel. “This new location in Columbus will allow us to expand our production capacities immediately while we continue to focus on growing our business.”
“One of our main priorities is to assist existing companies to achieve success,” said Brian Anderson, president & CEO of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce. “By taking time to understand Hammett Steel’s business, our team was able to provide the company access to valuable resources and guidance that will keep them firmly planted in the Columbus region.
“Hammett Steel has been a company that has quietly excelled in Phenix City for several years and we are certainly excited about their investment and plans to hire more people,” said Russ Carreker, chairman of the Development Authority of Columbus. “Columbus is a great place to achieve business success and we’re grateful Hammett Steel chose to remain in our area.”
