Chattahoochee Valley Community College, the CVCC Foundation, and Sabal Trail Transmission have signed a memorandum of understanding that will provide $50,000 worth of opportunity for CVCC students. Specifically, adult education, applied technology and public safety students will be able to apply for scholarships beginning spring 2017 semester.
“Sabal Trail Transmission believes in supporting institutes, colleges and universities in the local communities along the pipeline route which provide educational programs that can lead to energy infrastructure careers or aid in bolstering community vitality in the area,” said Andrea Grover, director for stakeholder outreach for Sabal Trail Transmission.
Over a five-year period, the $50,000 grant to the CVCC Foundation will allow for 20 scholarships a year at $500 each. Of those 20 scholarships per year, half are designated for those students who begin their studies through the Adult Education Career Pathways Program, and the other half are for those individuals seeking an AAS in fire science, emergency medical services, welding or industrial maintenance.
Mark Ellard, interim president at CVCC, said, “We are gracious for this gift, and look forward to a great partnership between Sabal Trail Transmission and CVCC.”
“This is an amazing opportunity that is win-win for both organizations, and an even bigger win for our community,” said Dr. Joree Jones, dean of institutional advancement and effectiveness. CVCC outcomes will include providing career and technical education opportunities, increasing student employability and bolstering the local economy. Sabal Trail aims to engage community, help prepare potential workforce and foster community vitality support.
“In essence, this grant money will help provide scholarships to students who want to learn a skillset that is in demand for our local community,” Jones added.
