United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley’s information and referral line, 2-1-1, celebrates its second anniversary at the local United Way. Since its inception, 2-1-1 has received over 12,400 calls, has given nearly 32,000 referrals, and has received almost 14,000 web hits.
2-1-1 directs callers to resources for a wide variety of needs, including Veteran and military support, parenting and childcare, rent and utility assistance, and employment services.
“Consistently, utility assistance has been our number one request with 13,642 referrals being given, followed closely by housing and food,” said Candace Poole, 2-1-1 Manager at United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. Poole noted that the housing number does not include services for the community’s homeless population such as emergency shelters. In two years, 2-1-1 has given out 2,250 referrals for services relating to homelessness with the bulk being emergency shelter and soup kitchens.
2-1-1 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 2-1-1 has agents that are multilingual. The 2-1-1 website, 211uwcv.org also provides information about resources from a selection of categories by ZIP code.
2-1-1 is made possible by generous donations from the people of our community.
