Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley has received a very generous donation from the SunTrust Foundation for the organization’s college and career readiness program, Money Matters. We invite you to join us for the check presentation to BGCCV on Monday, January 30, 2017. The Money Matters program is aimed at using interactive activities to educate youth and teens, on critical aspects of basic financial literacy.
The Money Matters program helps drive positive outcomes for youth in the academic success outcome by encouraging the following three behavior-changing goals: budgeting, saving, and planning for college. Through the financial literacy program, Club members learn financial and life skills at an early age to apply for a lifetime. The donation from the SunTrust Foundation will help provide quality programs that teach computer skills training, career exploration, arts and crafts, fitness and sports, character and leadership building programs and Youth of the Year (the Club’s premier recognition program).
One-third of Money Matter participants said they “extremely knowledgeable about how to manage debt” and 40% of participants now know how to create a budget. Over 200 Club members have participated in Money Matters resulting in numerous tours of colleges and universities and colleges business courses at Columbus Technical College. Along with Money Matters, programs such as Career Launch, Diplomas 2 Degrees, and My.Future are essential to Club members’ success. BGCCV recognizes the importance of developing life skills in young people to allow them to handle the challenges of transiting to adulthood.
