Columbus Symphony Orchestra “Mozart & Ravel” Tomorrow

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Friday, October 6th, 2017

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present our first Legacy Hall Series concert of the season, “Mozart & Ravel” on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 7:30 PM. One of Mozart’s last great symphonies and Ravel’s tour-de-force for woodwinds bookend CSO Principal Flutist Jim Zellers’ performance of Lowell Liebermann’s beautiful flute concerto.

Maestro George Del Gobbo comments, “The Columbus Symphony is delighted to present the inaugural concert of our new Legacy Hall Series. The concerts played in this venue will feature music written for a slightly smaller orchestra, but still music that will pack a sonic and emotional punch. This first concert features masterpieces by Mozart, Ravel, and the brilliant American composer Lowell Liebermann. It's great music in a more intimate setting. If I didn't have to be there, I'd still buy a ticket.”

CSO Principal Flutist Jim Zellers holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University and a D.M.A. from the Juilliard School.  His teachers have been Judith Thomas, Mark Thomas and Carol Wincenc. His performances have taken him to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Victoria Hall in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Festival d’Evian in France, the Spoleto Festival in both Charleston, S.C. and Italy, and the 1988 Seoul, Korea and 1996 Atlanta Olympics Festival of Arts and Culture.  Former touring artist for the North Carolina Council for the Arts, soloist with the Bach Area Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, and the Sea Cliff Chamber Players, Dr. Zellers is also currently Principal Flute with the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and Piccolo with the Florida West Coast Symphony, Sarasota.  He has held faculty positions at the University of Georgia, Augusta State and Georgia State Universities.  He is currently an Artist Affiliate for the Emory University School of Music, a position he has held since February 2006.

“Mozart & Ravel” is presented by Boomer 102.5, 103.7 Lite FM, and WLTZ.

Open Dress Rehearsal will begin Saturday, October 7th at 12:30 PM. We encourage attendance from all members of the community, including those who are unable to attend the evening concert or looking for a “behind-the-scenes” experience into the ensemble. It is a great way to introduce your children to a live musical experience. Continuing the tradition, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and allow new viewers to partake in the music being created by the CSO.

Attend Know the Score prior to the concert, at 6:30 PM in Studio Theatre. Know the Score is a casual pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo that is sure to provide more insight into the repertoire on the evening’s concert.

Tickets are $35 for all seating and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway). Rush Student tickets are available for $10 the evening of the concert. For more information call the RiverCenter Box Office at 706.256.3612 or visit us online at www.csoga.org.
