Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Friday, August 3rd, 2018
The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $7,000 Project Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts to support the Summer String Camp. One of only 36 Project Grant recipients this year, the GCA acknowledged the quality and strength of the grant application, highlighting a clear vision, achievable goals, and appropriate metrics for this Project. GCA also commended YOCG on its forward thinking on financial aid for participants, especially transportation concerns, which can affect the ability for many children to participate in these life-changing experiences.
"YOGC is thankful that a panel of peers from all over the state of Georgia deemed our Summer String
Camp a worthy investment for this competitive grant. GCA's employees work year-round to make their
grant programs happen smoothly, and it is an honor to have been chosen to receive funding every year
since 2006. It shows the power of YOGC's programs, the effect we are able to have on young musicians in this region, and the talent of our Music Director and Conductor, Jim Palmer. It's also worth noting that a lot of the funding for these grants comes from the National Endowment for the Arts, which just got a budget boost by Congress. That's another win worth celebrating because it has a direct impact on our local arts industry. Summer Camp for 2019 is going to be really special as it will be our final event for our 25th season. We are going to be doing an alumni concert, so anyone who's ever played with YOGC when you were in school, keep a lookout for more information! We want each and every one of you to reconnect with your YOGC friends, current musicians, and staff!" - Stephanie Payne, Executive Director
