The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus Invites CSO to Perform Side-By-Side
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Monday, January 14th, 2019
The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus invites the Columbus Symphony Orchestra to perform side-by-side with student musicians, embedding professional instrumentalists within the Youth Orchestra. The concert, hosted at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, begins at 7:30p on Saturday, January 12, and is free and open to the public.
The Side-By-Side Concert is the culmination of a full day of rehearsals and clinics led by CSO members working directly with Youth Orchestra musicians. Each student will have at least one professional musician sitting next to them during the evening performance. This concert features only our oldest ensemble members, due to the complexity of the musical repertoire.
“When we put children in an environment where they are put on the same level with professionals, it changes their outlook completely. We're putting these kids next to professional musicians playing the same music as them, and that reinforces that they are important. They're talented, they matter, and what they're doing is good. " – Stephanie Payne, YOGC Executive Director
