Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley Announces Diamond Williams 2019 Youth of the Year Winner

On February 7, 2019, Diamond Williams of THE Club - Teen Center was named the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley’s (BGCCV) 2019 Youth of the Year. As the new Youth of the Year, 17 year old Williams is a true example of an extraordinary young woman recognized by BGCCV for her great performance in school, leadership qualities, determination and her role in the community.
Upon being named the 2019 Youth of the Year, Williams was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the John B. Woodruff, Jr. Scholarship Fund as well as a full 2-year scholarship to Columbus Technical College. Alongside Williams, the three runners-up, Treasure Jones, Lovely Foster and Amiya Wright were also awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the John B. Woodruff, Jr. Scholarship Fund.
As Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth program, Youth of the Year recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. Youth of the Year encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles, and contributing to their communities.
A junior at G. W. Carver High School, Williams exhibits exemplary all Youth of the Year qualities. As a trumpet player, she is a member of the band, and serves as a leader and role model to younger Club members at BGCCV. After graduating from Carver, she plans to get her 4-year degree and pursue her dreams of becoming an actress.
In just a few weeks, Williams will travel to Atlanta to compete in the state-wide Youth of the Year Competition as a representative of the Chattahoochee Valley area Clubs.
BGCCV also recognized 17 year old, Youth of the Year candidate, Jacobi Sims by awarding him the Courage Award. This award is given to one teen who overcomes obstacles, defies the odds, and strives for greatness.
