DBHDD to Host Unspoken Wounds: One Team. One Battle. Many Victories!
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Friday, March 15th, 2019
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) will host the 2019 Unspoken Wounds Conference at the Columbus Trade and Convention Center, Sunday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 19. The theme of this year’s conference is One Team. One Battle. Many Victories!
Georgia is home to more than 700,000 veterans. It is estimated that one in five post-9/11 veterans struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder or major depression, and one in six has a substance use disorder. The Unspoken Wounds Conference serves not only to educate the providers who support our veterans, but also as an opportunity to pay tribute to the men and women who bear and have borne the burden of safeguarding our freedom.
The conference will attract hundreds of behavioral health professionals, law enforcement officers, judges, accountability and other court personnel, elected officials, Veterans Administration and other government personnel, mental health advocates, veterans, active duty military, and their family members, for three days of training, listening, and celebrating service and recovery.
The conference kicks off with a Veterans Career and Education Fair. Veterans and service members who wish to attend the career fair should register at this link, and select the career fair option for “registration category.” There is no charge to attend the career fair.
The conference also includes a focus on strategies for military families, who often experience highly stressful situations, such as multiple deployments, frequent moves, financial distress, isolation from other family and friends, trauma, grief, and lack of support and resources where they are located.
Individuals interested in attending the full conference may register here.
