Celebrate Mother's Day With Beautiful Music with the CSO
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Monday, April 29th, 2019
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present “Symphonic Dances” on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Bill Heard Theatre at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Works by Piazzolla and Rachmaninoff will have your toes tapping and Bruch’s well-known violin concerto, performed by renowned violinist and Assistant Concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra Jessica Lee, will give you a chance to rest between dances. Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend by enjoying this concert of ‘moving’ music!
Hailed as "a soloist which one should make a special effort to hear wherever she plays", violinist Jessica Lee, was the First Prize Winner of the 2005 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. The Chicago Tribune said: "...Lee's breathtaking dexterity should enchant anyone within hearing distance." Ms. Lee has performed both nationally and internationally with many prestigious orchestras as well as at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium. A native of Virginia, Jessica Lee began playing the violin at age three, and was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music at age fourteen graduating with a Bachelor's Degree under the tutelage of Robert Mann and Ida Kavafian. She completed her studies with Robert Mann for a Master of Music Degree at the Juilliard School and currently resides in New York.
“Symphonic Dances” is presented by Aflac, Columbus Marriott, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and Troy Public Radio.
On Saturday, May 11th, we will have our Open Rehearsal beginning at 12:30 PM. We encourage attendance from all members of the community, including those who are unable to attend the evening concert or looking for a “behind-the-scenes” look into the ensemble. It is a great way to introduce young children to a live musical experience in a sensory-friendly environment. Continuing the tradition, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and allow new viewers to partake in the music being created by the CSO.
Attend Know the Score at 6:30 PM in Studio Theatre. Know the Score is a casual pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo that provides insight into the repertoire on the evening’s concert.
Tickets are $20-$39 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children (ages 5-12). Children under 5 years of age not admitted however are welcome to attend Open Rehearsal at cost. Tickets can be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway). For more information call the RiverCenter Box Office at 706.256.3612 or visit us online at www.csoga.org.
