As part of the Bibb County School District’s annual Convocation on Thursday, July 25, Mark Robinson of W.S. Hutchings College and Career Academy was named the 2020 Bibb County Teacher of the Year. The honor means Robinson, who helps lead the school’s culinary pathway, advances for consideration for Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Robinson is entering his fourth year of teaching in the culinary pathway at Hutchings, which follows a year at Helms College. During his time with the District, he has led students in the classroom as well as in catering endeavors and the Compass Rose Café, an on-campus restaurant that is open to the public one day a week. Prior to his education career, Robinson spent 24 years in the United States Air Force.

Elam Alexander Academy’s Autumn Taylor was named runner-up for the award. The other finalists were Alexander II Magnet School’s Leslie Lowe Brown, Howard Middle School’s Jonilyn Browning and Howard High School’s John Sweat. As part of Convocation, the school-level winners from each of the District’s schools and programs also were honored, along with the Media Specialist of the Year and the Counselor of the Year.
