Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Wednesday, September 18th, 2019

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is thrilled to announce the unveiling of their new mobile app just in time for their season-opening concert “Henry Kramer Plays Rachmaninoff” on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 7:30 PM in Bill Heard Theatre at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

The new mobile app is designed to enhance the experience of those attending the symphony. “It will allow us to better engage with our audience and share with them what all is happening at the CSO,” said Marketing Director, Kristen Hudson. “We have studied the app’s use in symphonies across the country, and the increased engagement each organization has experienced is amazing.” This app will feature information on upcoming events, tickets, musicians and bios, photos, videos, directions & parking information, special concert-night content, and even live streaming of programs such as Know the Score and Symphony U. “We can’t wait for our Columbus audience to begin to access this important new aspect of the modern symphony experience.”

The “Columbus Symphony (GA)” app is available for free to download on Apple and Android devices.

The season-opening concert will feature the L. Rexford Distinguished Chair in Piano at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, Henry Kramer. This international award winner will be taking on one of the most difficult piano concertos ever written, Rachmaninoff’s “Third”. Add to the mix a stunning rhapsody by Ralph Vaughan Williams and one of Brahms’ symphonic masterpieces and you have yourself one incredible night of music!

Henry Kramer was recently awarded a 2019 Avery Fisher Career Grant by Lincoln Center – one of the most coveted honors bestowed on young American soloists. Kramer graduated from the Juilliard School and received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Yale School of Music. His teachers trace a pedagogical lineage extending back to Beethoven, Chopin, and Busoni.

“Henry Kramer Plays Rachmaninoff” is presented by TSYS, Piano Perfect, LLC, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and Troy Public Radio.

On Saturday, September 28th, we will have our Open Rehearsal beginning at 12:30 PM. We encourage
attendance from all members of the community, including those who are unable to attend the evening concert or looking for a “behind-the-scenes” look into the ensemble. It is a great way to introduce young children to live music experiences in a sensory-friendly environment. Continuing the tradition, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and allow new viewers to partake in the music being created by the CSO.

Attend Know the Score at 6:30 PM in Studio Theatre. Know the Score is a casual pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo that provides insight into the repertoire on the evening’s concert. Know the Score can also be viewed via live stream on the CSO’s new mobile app.

Tickets are $20-$39 for adults and $10 for students (ages 5+). Children under 5 years of age are not admitted however they are welcome to attend Open Rehearsal at no cost. Tickets can be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway).
