Columbus State Universities Army ROTC Cadets earned the rank #1 within Sixth Brigade, which includes 39 schools across the Southeastern part of the U.S., to include Division I schools like Auburn, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. At the conclusion of this past summer, the 6th Brigade Headquarters gave out eight awards based on Advanced Camp performance. Columbus State University took home 3 of the awards, to include: Top Battalion for overall Advanced Camp Performance, Top combined end of Camp (Outstanding and Excellent Evaluations), and Top Combined Excellent Evaluations for Field and Garrison training.

"The numbers don’t lie,” said Scott Jones, Recruiting officer at CSU. “Over the past ten years Columbus State Universities’ Army ROTC Cadets have not only met the standard, they have exceeded the standard. It is about trusting in the process that has been developed, a commitment to work hard, investing extra time, and creating a positive learning environment.”

With Columbus State being closely linked to Ft. Benning on the, CSU has a program designed on the Army’s Leadership Competency Model that includes year round emotional Intelligence training and 360 feedback. Columbus State even offers ROTC as a minor for CSU students.

Each summer, approximately 5,500 Cadets from 275 colleges and universities from all 50 states, two US territories and the District of Columbia attend Advance Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Advance Camp is a 37-day training event designed to train U.S. Army ROTC cadets to Army standards and to develop leadership and evaluate officer potential. This is accomplished through a tiered training structure using light infantry tactics as the instructional medium. Cadets are evaluated on their ability to lead at the Squad and Platoon levels, both in garrison and tactical environments. Cadets are mentally and physically tested during a 12-day consequence driven field training exercise that replicates a combat training center rotation. Successful completion of the Advanced Camp is a prerequisite for commissioning. It is the most significant training and evaluation event within the four-year ROTC curriculum.
