“Musical Fireworks” on Saturday, November 23rd
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Wednesday, November 20th, 2019
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is thrilled to present their upcoming concert “Musical Fireworks” on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 7:30 PM in Bill Heard Theatre at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Come hear orchestral fireworks from three different centuries.
Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks kicks the concert off with a bang and Tchaikovsky’s famous and
powerful love theme in Romeo and Juliet Overture - Fantasy will have you swaying in your seat. The concert closes with the ever-impressive Concerto for Orchestra by Bartók highlighting all of the instruments in the orchestra. These pieces demand immense virtuosity from our talented musicians and are guaranteed to leave you wanting more!
“Musical Fireworks” is presented by TSYS, Columbus and the Valley, Troy Public Radio, Boomer 102.5, and 103.7 Litefm.
On Saturday, November 23rd, we will have our Open Rehearsal beginning at 12:30 PM. We encourage
attendance from all members of the community, including those who are unable to attend the evening concert or looking for a “behind-the-scenes” view into the ensemble. It is a great way to introduce young children to live music experiences in a sensory-friendly environment. Continuing the tradition, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and allow new viewers to partake in the music being created by the CSO.
This Open Rehearsal will feature our very first Sensory Saturday. Our new Sensory Saturday rehearsals are welcome to those with special needs and on the autism spectrum. We will provide a sensory-friendly
atmosphere with the doors open and house lights on to allow participants to freely move around and come and go as needed. Attendees can feel and make sound on musical instruments prior to rehearsal starting at 12:00PM in our Instrument Petting Zoo.
Attend Know the Score at 6:30 PM in Studio Theatre. Know the Score is a casual pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo that provides insight into the repertoire on the evening’s concert. Know the Score can also be viewed via live stream on the CSO’s new mobile app.
Tickets are $20-$39 for adults and $10 for students and children. Military and Senior discounts are available.
Tickets can be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway). For more information call the RiverCenter Box Office at 706.256.3612 or visit us online at www.csoga.org.
