Harris County Paramedics Named First Friday Hero
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Monday, December 9th, 2019
Piedmont Columbus Regional has named Scott Boatner, Chad Dallas, and Richard Sebree with Harris County EMS the organization’s First Friday Hero for the month of December.
Sebree, Dallas, and Boatner responded to a hypotension (low blood pressure) call. When EMS arrived, the female patient did not want to be transported to the hospital. Later she began to have a fainting episode or seizure.
Paramedics noticed she stopped breathing so they quickly defibrillated the patient and inserted a tube for better breathing. When arriving to the Midtown Campus Emergency Department, the patient was awake and alert. Later, she went into cardiac arrest several more times, but was resuscitated. The patient was taken to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab where an internal pacemaker was implanted.
This patient was given a hopeful outcome due to EMS’ timely response and quick action in the treatment and management of a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).
A ceremony with Boatner, Dallas, Sebree and hospital leadership will be held at a later date to commend them for their response. Their story is also featured throughout the hospital on commemorative posters and Piedmont Columbus Regional’s social media pages.
Piedmont Columbus Regional created the First Friday Hero program in mid-2016, which is designed to recognize first responders on a monthly basis who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Their line of work is often a thankless job and we want to make the community aware of our local heroes and all they do to make Columbus a better and safer place.
