Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Wednesday, April 29th, 2020

The local Chattahoochee Council, Boy Scouts of America are hosting a three day community-wide virtual 5k to benefit the local Scouting program in the Chattahoochee Valley, West Georgia and East Alabama.

Scouting continues to thrive in your local community, even during these uncertain times. Our Scouts are utilizing technology to meet and complete activities virtually, even backyard virtual camping! Scouts are participating in online spirit competitions, at home campsite competitions and selling Camp Cards to donate to First Responders. The Scouting program is one of the few still delivering services to our youth during this time. Our Scouting at Home library offers families a supply of program ideas and fun activities to do, including rank advancement instruction, from the comfort of the home. Juan Osorio, Scout Executive and CEO of the Chattahoochee Council Boy Scouts commented, “We are proud of our Scouts and Leaders for being resilient during these difficult times as we continue the Scouting program in our area”.

Our Scouts are encouraged to live by the Scout Oath and Law. One of the points in the Scout Oath reminds us to keep ourselves Physically Strong. Exercise and a healthy diet are also encouraged throughout the Scouting program. This can be tough while sheltering at home, “Our Scouting values teach us that a Scout is physically strong, we welcome the community to participate in our virtual 5K, joining our local Scouts, leaders and families” added Osorio.

Join us for a Virtual 5K run or walk between May 8th and May 10th. The Scouting Strong 5K supports our local Scouts and promotes healthy, active lifestyles for everyone. Our Scouts are challenging YOU to participate and show how physically strong YOU are! All registered race participants will receive a Finisher Medallion upon request.
