CSU Archives Now Accepting Community Submissions to Document COVID-19

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Thursday, May 7th, 2020

Columbus State University Archives and Special Collections is actively seeking submissions that document the changes in everyday life for those in the Chattahoochee Valley area affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Everyone in the community is invited to participate. Please join to help us show how life has changed. The stories, photos, and other items we collect will allow us and future generations to study and explore these historic times.  Submissions will be viewable online and kept permanently as part of the Archive’s historical record. Individuals may choose to make their submissions anonymously though if they do not wish to be identified.

Submissions can be made in many formats that include sharing a story, photo, video, audio file, or a document. Multiple formats can be selected when making a submission, but if it is a video or audio file, we are asking people to limit the time to under two minutes.

Head of Archives and Special Collections, David Owings, partnered with Neil Tirado of University Information and Technology Services to make this project possible. According to Owings, “We were able to utilize our existing Digital Archives to both capture and display submissions, so we have the benefit of not only collecting local stories but also immediately making them available online for others to see.” In addition to stories regarding COVID-19, CSU’s Digital Archives hosts nearly 4,000 photos, documents, oral histories, and other items documenting local area history.
