Groundbreaking Plans for Deimel Field Renovations
Staff Report From Columbus CEO
Tuesday, May 5th, 2020
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School, a ministry of St. Anne Catholic Church, announces plans to begin renovations on its football field and athletic complex. School and church leaders will mark the beginning of construction by breaking ground on Deimel Field on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Noon.
Deimel Field serves as the playing site for St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School’s Vikings Baseball, Vikings Football, Vikings Soccer and Lady Vikings Soccer teams. In the near future, it will also be where our Lady Vikings Flag Football and Lady Vikings Softball teams train.
Phase one of the renovations will include the installation of a state-of-the-art synthetic turf field by FieldTurf. Using its latest infill innovation, CoolPlay, FieldTurf significantly lowers the temperature of the playing surface. The field will be marked for football, soccer and baseball, and include the school’s logo. Other enhancements in phase one include a new baseball backstop between dugouts; goal posts; soccer goals; baseball clay mound; foul poles; home plate; and fencing with gates around the field’s perimeter.
Phase two of the renovation to the athletic complex includes the replacement of spectator seating, new lighting, an upgraded concession stand, new scoreboards, and the remodeling of restrooms.
Phase one will cost $1,353,463 and will be paid for with donations collected via St. Anne Catholic Church’s and St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School’s multi-faceted, multi-year Building on Tradition: A Vision for the Future Capital Campaign. So far, through generous donations to the Viking 600 campaign, launched earlier this year, $218,601.50 of the $600,000 needed for phase two has been collected and/or pledged.
“We are very excited and grateful to see this project come to fruition,” says St. Anne Church Pastor Fr. Robert Schlageter.
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School President and High School Principal Ronie Collins adds, “We are thankful for the generous donors who have given to our campaigns to make our state-of-the-art athletic complex a reality.”
“Not only will these fields be utilized by the Vikings and Lady Vikings sports teams, but all Vikings will benefit from the expanded use of our outdoor space during recess, PE, and Field Day,” says St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Athletic Director Corry Black.
Phase one of the Deimel Field renovation is anticipated to be finished on the first day of the 2020-2021 school year.
