Columbus State University (CSU) recently received a $2,000 grant from the Terracon Foundation to support scholarships in fall 2020 for students across STEM disciplines.
Terracon is the parent company of Geotechnical & Environmental Consultants, Inc., (GEC). GEC and CSU have a longstanding relationship, working together to improve the lives of students and the community.
“Over the years, Geotechnical & Environmental Consultants, Inc. has partnered with CSU to broaden interest and participation in STEM disciplines,” said Dr. Annice Yarber-Allen, CSU’s Dean of the College of Letters and Sciences. “Together, we provide students with the resources they need and the STEM experience they require to be successful. We are especially thankful for the commitment of GEC and we are encouraged that this generous Terracon Foundation grant will make a difference in the lives of our students, preparing them to be STEM mentors and leaders in their communities.”
Jason Cooper, branch manager of GEC’s Columbus office, has supported various CSU events and initiatives for many years and advocated for the Terracon Foundation grant. Cooper said, “GEC has long supported CSU and their development of students and future leaders in the STEM disciplines and we are excited to continue this support through the Terracon Foundation. I would like to thank the Foundation’s review board for this grant. GEC/Terracon look forward to continuing to support CSU’s academic development of students within the STEM disciplines.”
Terracon is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm with more than 5,000 employees providing environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services in all 50 states. GEC has offices in Columbus, Macon, and LaGrange, Georgia.
As part of an ongoing effort to support higher education, the Terracon Foundation presents university grants for scholarships, fellowships, and programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
