YOGC Adapts 27th Season to Keep Young Musicians Playing
Wednesday, August 19th, 2020
Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus (YOGC) is adapting to life with COVID-19 and creating opportunities for young musicians to play together in safe, socially distant ways. The 2020-2021 season, YOGC’s 27th, will adhere to the Columbus GA C.A.R.E.S. guidelines, a set of recommendations published by VisitColumbusGA to help businesses and organizations reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission in the community. These include mandatory masks, social distancing, and health checks for all attendees and staff. In addition to taking the C.A.R.E.S. pledge, all YOGC activities will adhere to the latest research on safe rehearsals by the International Coalition of Performing Arts Aerosol Study (Preliminary Results of Performing Arts Aerosol Study).
YOGC’s Current Schedule
Week 1: Open House and Audition Opportunity
Week 2: Recital/Masterclass with Audition Opportunity
Week 3: First Rehearsal
This season, auditions are required for musicians new to YOGC or for current members wishing to move into a different ensemble. More information and online registration can be found at yogc.org/auditions.
“YOGC’s staff and board have been monitoring the latest research coming out on safe instrumental rehearsals. The June and July Jam Sessions proved that there is not only a way to make music together safely but that our young musicians need a way and place to do that.. YOGC is excited to continue providing a safe, welcoming space for our community’s children to flex their creative muscles.” - Stephanie Payne, YOGC Executive Director.
