Georgia DOT Awards 2 Contracts for New Projects in West Central Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it awarded two contracts for new projects in District 3 (West Central Georgia region). The projects are:
The projects are:
- Houston County: the project involves the resurfacing of 7.891 miles of US 129/Georgia 247 from north of Georgia 96 to the Bibb County line. The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. of Marietta, Georgia for $5.5 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer, 2021. This project was bid on Sept. 18 and the contract awarded on Oct. 2, 2020.
- Muscogee County: the project involves the construction of a diverging diamond interchange on Interstate 185/Georgia 411 at Buena Vista Road (CS 2228). The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. of Marietta, Georgia for $25.6 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of spring, 2024. This project was bid on May 22 and the contract awarded on Sept. 15, 2020.
The September round of awards bring the state of Georgia's total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2021 to $292.4 million, including Transportation Investment Act (TIA) projects, Design-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2021 consists of the twelve months from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
