Ambulance Crew Named First Friday Heroes
Monday, February 8th, 2021
Piedmont Columbus Regional has named Shikerrie Turpin and Scott Warren with EMS Care Ambulance the organization’s First Friday Heroes for the month of February.
Turpin and Warren responded to a call where a 2-year-old boy had wondered off and fallen into a swimming pool. A family member discovered the child in the pool and pulled the unresponsive boy to safety. The child went into cardiac arrest and the family member administered CPR before EMS arrived on-scene.
EMS rushed the child to Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Midtown Campus. The boy survived and is now doing well.
A ceremony with Turpin, Warren, and hospital leadership will be held at a later date to commend them for their response. Their story is also featured throughout the hospital on commemorative posters and Piedmont Columbus Regional’s social media pages. This is the second time Turpin has been named a First Friday Hero. In March 2020, Turpin was recognized for saving an elderly man after he suffered a heart attack.
Piedmont Columbus Regional created the First Friday Hero program in mid-2016 to recognize first responders each month who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Their line of work is often a thankless job and we want to make the community aware of our local heroes and all they do to make Columbus a better and safer place.
