Andrew College Theatre Students Land Roles at Kennedy Center American College Theatre Regional Festival.
Monday, February 8th, 2021
Andrew College theatre students recently attended the virtual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for Region Four. Region Four is made up of college and university students from colleges and universities throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, the US Virgin Islands, and Virginia. The regional festival offered students opportunities for performances, workshops, and auditions. Due to their performances in the fall production of “Cuthbert Speaks”, Jazmine Curry, Shannon Green, and Antonyo Myers were nominated to compete in the Irene Ryan scholarship auditions.
In addition, Andrew College freshman Darris (DJ) Hodges and sophomore Hasani Comer have been cast in separate Ten Minute Plays at Region 4 of the Kennedy Center Festival (KCACTF). This means they will virtually rehearse with a student director, playwright, dramaturg, and cast to record a virtual "staged reading" of a new play for the region. Andrew College Assistant Professor of Theatre, Deborah Liss-Green shared, "Our six-state region is huge, and I am very proud of all my students for showing up and showing out in Region 4." In addition to the Irene Ryan nominees, Hodges and Comer, Andrew College was also well represented by theatre major, Mason Flury and Art Major Sierra Albritton.
