Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded 27 construction contracts for statewide transportation projects totaling $59,456,766.

The largest single investment, worth approximately $15.9 million, was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc., this safety project will replace the existing two-way, stop-controlled ramp terminals with two newly constructed roundabouts at the interchange of Interstate 85/State Route 18. 

The project length is approximately a quarter mile and includes replacement of four existing bridges in the project area. Interstate 85 crosses State Route 18 with two bridges, and State Route 18 crosses Long Cane Creek with two bridges. This project also includes the installation of intersection video detection systems (VDS). The project will take place in the City of West Point, in the southern region of Troup County. 

The second largest contract, $13.7 million, was awarded to Precision 2000, Inc to perform 19.61 miles of concrete rehabilitation and pavement marking upgrades on Interstate 675/State Route 413 north and south bound from at Interstate 675/I-75 split to State Route 407 in Clayton, DeKalb and Henry counties.

Both contracts above along with 10 other safety contracts, represents 50 percent or slightly over $30 million of the awarded funds. Other safety contracts consist of signage upgrades, as well as and intersection improvements on various roadways statewide.

The remaining 50 percent, or $29.4 million, is allotted for widening and construction, general construction, bridge construction and resurfacing projects at various locations throughout the state. 

In addition to the project mentioned above, a Design-Build project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc in the month of February. The project consists of the construction of a two-lane exit and ramps from Interstate-285 westbound to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to reduce the bottleneck and further facilitate continuous traffic flow. Transportation Investment Act (TIA) project was awarded to The Sikes Brothers, Inc to widen and reconstruct at various locations in Laurens and Johnson counties. To learn more about TIA visit:http://www.ga-tia.com/.

The February awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2021 to $1.06 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2021 began July 1, 2020.
