Pirate Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams Earn High Accolades

Wednesday, April 28th, 2021

Congratulations are in order for both the women’s and men’s basketball teams at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.  The men’s team placed second in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) South Division and finished the season 19-3 overall and 12-2 in the conference. The Lady Pirates are the (ACCC) South Division Champions for the fifth consecutive season and placed second in the championship game, making it their fourth appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 22 championship game in five years. The team managed a solid 17-6 overall record including 11-1 in the ACCC South while never having the entire team available at once.

“This season presented us with every obstacle imaginable,” said Lady Pirates Coach Ron Robinson. “For us to accomplish what we were able to achieve is nothing short of special. We’ve grown as individuals and even more as a family, because the adversity we faced brought an already tightknit group even closer and drove us to success.”

The icing on the cake was ACCC’s recent announcement of postseason awards in which both teams and coaches earned recognition for their performances throughout the season. On the women’s side, Jardyn Alexander was recognized as a top-5 player in the ACCC with First Team All-Region 22, First Team All-ACCC South Division, and ACCC All-Tournament honors. Nia Allen earned Second Team All-ACCC South Division and ACCC All-Tournament honors. J'Auana 'Boogie' Robinson joined Jardyn and Nia on the ACCC All-Tournament Team.

On the men’s team, Tyler Willoughby was recognized as First Team All-Region 22 and First Team All-South Division, Wisdom Uboh made Second Team All-Region and First Team All South Division, Ellis Lee earned Second Team All-South Division and Region 22 All-Tournament Team, and Dayreontae Foster was named to the Region 22 All-Tournament Team.

Both the women’s and men’s basketball coaches were named Coach of the Year.

“Being recognized as Coach of the Year was just God at work,” explained Robinson. “I was lucky to have a group of young ladies and coaches that worked extremely hard along with the support from the Pirate family.”

“I am most humbled to receive this accolade,” said Men’s Basketball Head Coach Ben Hicks. “This award not only goes to me but to my assistant coaches, manager, and team for their hard work and dedication. I am so very grateful to be named Coach of Year.”
