St. Francis-Emory Healthcare Invites Students to Name its New Surgical Robot

Wednesday, April 21st, 2021

St. Francis-Emory Healthcare is holding a “Name the Robot Contest” for its new orthopaedic surgical robot. Starting Monday, April 19, 2021, K-12 students in Columbus and surrounding areas, public, private, and home schools can enter the “Name the Robot Contest”. One grand prize winner will name the robot and receive a $50 gift card along with a pizza party for their entire class.

To enter the contest, students must enter by Friday, April 30, 2021 with their proposed name. In case of multiple entries of the same, one winner will be drawn from the selected entry pool. As part of the selection process, St. Francis team members will have an opportunity to vote on the entries. The winner will be announced Tuesday, May 5, 2021.

St. Francis installed the new surgical robot in early February and has used it to perform over six surgeries so far by Dr. George Zimmerman.  Located tableside in the operating room, the robot allows the surgeon to move about the patient’s anatomy, enabling a personalized joint replacement surgical plan.  Frequently cited clinical benefits associated with robot-assisted surgeries include less pain, less physical therapy, reduction in length of hospital stay, improved knee flexion, and less soft-tissue damage when compared to manual techniques.
